Akdeniz Diyeti

Cancer is an important public health problem both in terms of its prognosis and treatment costs. When we look at the risk factors; hereditary characteristics, exposure to chemicals, excessive smoking and alcohol consumption, hormonal effects, viral infections, drug use, radiation exposure, lifestyle and nutrition come to the fore. Nutrition and lifestyle are important as modifiable factors. The Mediterranean diet is accepted as a way of life and is considered protective against many health problems. With its high fiber content, diet rich in unsaturated fatty acids, especially olive oil, and rich in compounds with high antioxidant activity, the anticancer effects of the Mediterranean-type diet have also been the subject of much research. These studies have shown that it reduces the risk of many cancers such as head and neck cancers, hepatobiliary system, female reproductive system, gastrointestinal system, urogenital system cancers, breast, lung and colorectal cancers and has positive effects on survival.
