Dental Mikrocerrahinin Gelişimi ve Periodontolojide Kullanımı

Özet

Mikrocerrahi, cerrahi mikroskop kullanımıyla görme keskinliğinin arttırılmasıyla gerçekleştirilen temel cerrahi tekniktir. Diş hekimliği’nde 1920’li yıllardan itibaren mikrocerrahi kullanılmaya başlamıştır. Operasyon mikroskobunun diş hekimliğine dahil edilmesine yönelik ilk adımlar, Bowles’un 1907’de binoküler, bi-objektif mikroskobu diş ameliyathanesinde kullanılmak üzere geliştirmesiyle başlar. Mikroskop destekli periodontal tedavi, Shanelec ve Tibbetts tarafından Orlando, Florida’da düzenlenen 78. Amerikan Periodontoloji Akademisi yıllık toplantısında tanıtılmıştır ve 1992 yılından itibaren periodontolojinin uzmanlık alanındaki yerini almıştır. Periodontal hastalığı tedavi ederken ve özellikle diş etlerini etkileyen patolojileri ele alırken operasyon mikroskobu, proksimaller arası boşluklara erişimi ve görünürlüğü büyük ölçüde kolaylaştırır. Periodontal mikrocerrahi geleneksel periodontal cerrahi ile rekabet etmez. Metodolojisi mevcut cerrahi uygulamayı geliştirir ve periodontolojiye daha iyi hasta bakımı imkânı sunar.

Microsurgery is a basic surgical technique that increases visual acuity using a surgical microscope. Microsurgery has been used in dentistry since the 1920s. The first steps towards incorporating the operating microscope into dentistry began in 1907 when Bowles developed the binocular, bi-objective microscope for use in the dental operating room. Microscope-assisted periodontal therapy was introduced by Shanelec and Tibbetts at the 78th annual meeting of the American Academy of Periodontology in Orlando, Florida, and has been a specialty of periodontology since 1992. When treating periodontal disease and addressing pathologies affecting the gingiva, the operating microscope greatly facilitates access and visibility into the interproximal spaces. Periodontal microsurgery does not compete with traditional periodontal surgery. Its methodology enhances existing surgical practice and offers periodontology the possibility of better patient care.
