Meyan kökü (Glyctrrhiza Uralensis)

Synopsis

Chinese Licorice is one of the oldest herbal medicines of Chinese traditional medicine. This chapter reviews the current literature on the topic and discusses the effect of Chinese Licorice on the breast, ovary, cervical, esophagus, stomach, liver, colorectal, prostate, leukemia and lymphoma, oral cavity, skin, and lung cancer cells. In addition, herb-drug interactions are also mentioned at the end of the chapter.
Although preclinical studies may prove the anti-cancerogenic effect, absence of the clinical studies prevents reaching a reliable conclusion. There is a need for large-scale clinical studies to determine the Chinese Licorice’s routine use in cancer treatment.
